Fun fact:
QOL In a man
- Sex (important)
- Happy wife=happy life usually requires babies
The most important aspect of protecting fertility options is to simply be aware and plan. Military personnel (MPs) often face unique challenges that can affect fertility and these challenges can occur rapidly and without control.
It is reasonable for any military personnel to consider freezing sperm (cryopreservation) before any deployment. The process is quick, easy, and inexpensive, especially since many sperm banks offer generous military discounts. For example, the Fertility Center of California offers a 20% discount to military personnel.
Since military assignment orders can come without warning, it is wise to consider protecting fertility options before a new assignment causes a mini emergency. All young men should consider freezing regardless if they are in a committed relationship or not.
Body function and therefore fertility options can change with certain injuries and over time. While sperm can be obtained directly from the testicles easily, it is only useful for IVF (test tube baby) which is expensive (20k-30k in California). By freezing ejaculated sperm, it can be used for 1 intrauterine insemination (IUI or turkey baster technique in guy talk), at a cost of approximately $700. This inexpensive strategy brings fertility options well into the reach of everybody.
